The Crypto Grimoire: Weekly Epilogue
January 9th-13th, 2023
We’ve seen a bullish move upwards. It’s been quite a while since we’ve seen sustained bullishness. Everything for the past year has been cut short. Whether this is an echo bubble, bear market rally, it’s best not to fight momentum and that momentum has shifted upwards recently. Data doesn’t seem to support a full return to bull market yet though. Volumes are low, stablecoins aren’t flowing onto exchanges, TVL low, etc. Enjoy the conditions while you can, make some money and don’t end up as other people’s exit liquidity.

- Time moves differently in crypto. Crypto is an intricate game filled with various players operating across multiple time frames and with varying agendas. Day in, day out, the pieces are moving all across the board. Sometimes for the better and sometimes for the worse. The following is a look at the crypto landscape during the past week covering various sectors. Use these events like clues - let it tell you the larger overarching story of crypto -

Data:
Prices:
Bitcoin and ETH coming in stronk. Dow Jones, Gold, S&P 500, Nasdaq all moving upwards while the dollar moves down. Risk is eager to return. If only that pesky macro could clear up.
Crypto Market Cap:
~$900B. We went below $800B towards the end of December and have been creeping back upwards. Still no significant volume.
Stablecoin Exchange Reserves:
Ideally, we’d like to see stablecoins flowing back onto exchanges, signifying that buying pressure is returning. Alas, that is not yet the case. Stablecoins continue leaving exchanges.
DeFi TVL:
TVL has not done much interesting. Despite the market rallying, funds are not being locked in DeFi smart contracts. It ain’t DeFi summer yet.
Exchange Volume:
Exchange volume also continues to stay low. No meaningful increase yet.
Dex Volume:
DEX volume likewise continues to stay low. No meaningful increase yet.
NFT Volume:
Ethereum NFT volume is similarly low. No meaningful increase yet.
Ayooooooo. What’s this now? Solana NFT volume is popping. Especially on Magic Eden. Interdasting. This gives support to the idea that degen season may be close if conditions continue to hold.
Revenue:
Protocols that are bringing in more in revenue over the past month than they’ve emitted in incentives. Can’t help but notice Lido which is also benefiting from the LSD narrative.
Treasuries:
Treasuries seeing a general increase over the past week. Notice Lido again with a healthy treasury size and increase.
Daily Active Users:
Solana seeing a strong uptick in users. Solana NFT volume is popping off and they have a strong community. Bonk on Solana recently took off. Solana resurgence or ded after FTX? People’s opinions are often so divided on Solana and other past rotations.
