Reminiscences of an Anon: Midweek Thoughts
What will the price of Luna be in one year?
While the market continues to hang in a delicate balance, amidst a backdrop of high macro and geopolitical uncertainty, a multimillion dollar bet this week between Luna founder Do Kwon and CT trader Algod which was later upped between GRC and Do posits some interesting questions. What will the price of Luna be in one year? Higher or lower than $88? Luna currently has a $35B market cap with a FDV of $73B. CT sentiment seems to favor the price of Luna going down in one year, stating the ponzinomic nature of the token. Then there's Terraform Labs and Luna Foundation Guard injecting hundreds of millions into the protocol to support the price of Luna. Others speculate that due to narrative rotation and hype fading, the price is likely to see a short term increase but most likely will fall within a year’s time. One thing is for sure, this was a ballsy move and great PR for Luna by Do. Luna has been a standout performer over the last year.
Ethereum merge testing on Kiln was mostly successful this week, save for one minor bug. "Post-merge blocks are being produced by validators, and they contain transactions!" said an Ethereum developer. Kiln is now operating in a proof-of-work (PoW) testing environment for Ethereum developers, node operators, and stakers. It is the final public testnet before the whole network transitions to proof-of-stake from PoW sometime this year. Furthermore, ConsenSys raised $450m at a valuation of $7b and all proceeds from the round will be converted to ETH to further build ConsenSys’ “ultra sound money” position to rebalance its ETH to fiat ratio in line with ConsenSys’ treasury strategy. Long story short - it seems the upcoming ETH merge narrative, which has been highly anticipated, is starting to heat up again.
Metaverse and Land Sales
Bored Ape is planning virtual land sales as well as a freshly hyped up APECoin token to kickstart a metaverse gaming project. News of this stole all the attention in the room due to the high profile of the BAYC brand and the recent Yuga Labs acquisition. Could apecoin be the fuel necessary to rekindle retail interest in the market? Could other major jpegs follow suit in the same copycat and fork style we’ve seen before? There are however a few worrying concerns regarding the tokenomics including the simultaneous launch of perps which will allow for hedging. For now it’s certain that this is getting quite a bit of attention and most of CT is talking about it.
We again also witness another major corporation entering the metaverse space with HSBC, a British banking organization with a previously unfavorable stance to the cryptocurrency industry until recently, announcing a partnership with The Sandbox to foray into the metaverse. HSBC will purchase virtual real estate in the metaverse in the form of LAND. The concept of virtual land has been a curious one as of late and it is clear that many large players have expressed interest in virtual land but questions remain as to how any of this will actually play out.
